Open Category A1/A3 and A2

This category is divided into three subcategories A1/A3 and A2, based on the operational constraints, the requirements for the drone operator and the technical requirements for the drones. In the “open” category the trainee will receive a certificate of proficiency in one or more of the three flight operations categories he will choose.

Who is this training for?
Training concerns anyone who owns or wants to buy a drone with a maximum take-off mass (MTOW) greater than or equal to 250g or a drone with a sensor with the ability to collect personal data.
What is provided in the training?


A) It is taught drone theory according to the European regulation. The initial training is performed either through structured audiovisual material of the theory, or through online training on the LMS platform of our training center.
Theoretical training in subcategory A1/A3 includes the following modules:

  • Air safety
  • Airspace restrictions
  • Aviation regulation
  • Human performance limitations
  • Operational procedures
  • UAS general knowledge
  • Privacy and data protection
  • Insurance
  • Security

Theoretical training in subcategory A2 includes additional the following modules:

  • Meteorology
  • UAS flight performance
  • Technical and operational mitigations for ground risk.

B) In subcategory A2 a free optional practical training is provided with the drones of the academy in order for the trainee to start performing his flights responsibly and safely.
Practical training with a drone includes:

  • Software configuration.
  • Basic drone operation.
  • Navigation.
  • Dealing emergencies
  • Failsafe and RTH function

C) Free online examination is provided in the subcategories A1/A3 and A2 through LMS platform

How long is the training?
Theoretical training is five (5+) hours long for subcategory A1/A3 and seven (7+) hours long for subcategory A2.
In subcategory A2 are conducted two (2) flights with academy drones and a UAV flight instructor in a safe outdoor area.
