Do I need any UAS (drone) experience before attending the courses?

No, regardless of existing UAS (drone) experience, our drone school helps take you from novice to commercial remote pilot.

Which are the sub-categories in UAS (drone) operations in the ‘open’ category?

There are 3 subcategories

  • A1, flight over people with MTOM less than 0,900 kg
  • A2, flight close to people with MTOM less than 4 kg
  • A3, flight far from people with MTOM less than 25 kg

In which cases a UAS (drone) certification – license is needed?

In any case the UAS (drone) has maximum take-off mass more than 250gr

In which case insurance is needed?

Greek national law requires third party liability insurance for each drone:

  • that is being used for professional purposes
  • equal to or more than 4 kgs for private use

How long the UAS (drone) certification is valid?

Five (5) years and for renewal the UAS (drone) pilot it is required to re-examine his theoretical knowledge

According the risk level criteria which are the categories of UAS operations?

Open category, present a low or no risk to third parties
Specific category, present greater risk than that of the open category and
Certified category, present equivalent risk to that of manned aviation

What is the minimum age for remote pilots?

The minimum age for remote pilots operating a UAS in the ‘open’ and ‘specific’ category is 16 years.

What changes in drones with European regulations?

European regulations distinguish drones based on the risk posed by their operation
and not between recreational and professional activities.

Do all remote pilots need to be trained to fly a drone?

Yes, you should have training according to the category of drone you are going to use.You do not need to be trained only if you use very light drones:

  • If the drone bears a CE class 0 mark, you should only know the manufacturer's instructions
  • If the drone is privately made and weighs less than 250g, you do not need to do any training

Are remote pilot certificates valid throughout Europe?

Yes, they apply to all EASA member states. The regulations allow the remote pilot to choose the member state that will conduct its training and examinations and will receive its certificates.
